Short Biodata
Prof. Vivek Polshettiwar is Professor of Chemistry at TIFR, Mumbai, where his research lies at the interface of nanomaterials and catalysis, with a focus on solar energy harvesting and the conversion of CO₂ into fuels and chemicals. He is the inventor of dendritic fibrous nanosilica (DFNS) and plasmonic Black Gold. His work spans materials chemistry, plasmonics, defect engineering, and strong metal–support interactions, providing design principles for next-generation catalysts to address critical energy and environmental challenges. He has published nearly 150 peer-reviewed articles and holds 17 national and international patents and patent applications.
His work has been recognized with numerous prestigious honors, including the ORISE Research Fellowship (US EPA), the Asian Rising Star Lectureship from Nobel Laureate Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi, the IUPAC CHEMRAWN VII Prize for Green Chemistry, the MRSI and CRSI Medals, and the Falling Walls Award, Germany (Winner in Physical Sciences, 2023). He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc), the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc), and the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK). In 2024, he received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, one of India’s highest science honor, conferred by the President of India. In 2026, he received the CAS-PIFI Distinguished Scientist Award by the Chinese Academy of Sciences
His group aims to develop novel nanomaterials as catalysts to tackle “climate change”.
